Drinking water consumption
On average, each person consumes approx. 130 litres of drinking water per day. Most water is consumed via the tap in the kitchen and bathroom and via the toilet flush. The consumption per use is however strongly different.
The consumption of drinking water depends on the time of day and the season. Hours of particularly high consumption are referred to as peak hours and correspond to the rhythm of people's lives.
Weekly people go to work or school, so peak hours occur in the morning and evening. People are often at home on weekends, so peak hours are at noon and in the afternoon. In addition, in summer more drinking water is needed for the garden or to fill swimming pools.
In the household, water meters can be connected to the drinking water pipes, which measure the volume of water flowing through them. In this way it is possible to read directly in the house how much drinking water is consumed.
